ACSR Zebra conductor is an Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) used for high-voltage overhead transmission lines and is manufactured as per IS 398. It consists of 54 hard drawn aluminium strands laid over a central core of 7 galvanized steel wires, having a 54/7 construction. The nominal aluminium area is 400 sq.mm with a total cross-sectional area of approximately 450 sq.mm. The steel core provides high tensile strength to withstand long spans and heavy mechanical loads, while the aluminium strands ensure excellent electrical conductivity and high current carrying capacity. It has an overall diameter of about 28–29 mm and is widely used for 132 kV, 220 kV and higher transmission lines. ACSR Zebra conductor is known for its high strength, large power carrying capacity, and suitability for long-distance bulk power transmission.
